You will need a vehicle ready at all times to get you to your location in the shortest possible time. The most suitable vehicle is likely to be a 4x4. They are heavy duty vehicles that aren't going to fall apart if you have a minor scrape in them. There is no sense in having prepared for this moment, having a great location and a fully stocked, comfortable shelter if you can't get there.
Keep a mini survival kit in a backpack in your vehicle. Always plan for the worst. You may have to ditch your vehicle and continue on foot.
Ensure that you have the maps to your location secured inside your glove box. You should know your route by heart. Practice the drive in all seasons. Know all alternate routes because GPS won't work post doomsday!
